<Q: Please elaborate on your language policy.> We aim to keep things simple and use terms that citizens would use and recognise. It's important not to get caught up in industry jargon.
<Q: What makes a good packaging label? What information should be prioritised?> It needs to be simple and give clear information
<Q: Can you describe your approach, or the approach of your organisation, to supporting/point-of-sale information with regard to plastic packaging?> Although this is not something we would currently use, it needs to follow the same principles - be simple and give clear information. Supporting/point of sale info can be used to give a fuller picture and support info included on a label
<Q: Are there any examples of labelling that you are especially proud of? If you aren't involved in design, please tell us about some packaging/labelling that you especially like, and why.> Our new recycle/don't recycle labels. They have a clear and simple call to action style message and are well recognised and understood by consumers.
<Q: What information would you wish to be included on packaging labels, if e.g. space and branding weren't an issue?> Information that is important to me as a consumer: what's in the packaging; how do I use it (do I need to do something to it first); are there any risks involved; where has the product come from and info on how it was produced/made (organic, fairtrade etc); how do I dispose of the packaging when finished with it.
<Q: Is there anything that you purposely avoid including on packaging labels?> Industry terms and jargon.
<Q: What do you most want consumers to take away from the text on packaging labels? Is there any messaging that you feel isn't landing with consumers?> They should be able to get the information they need from the label, without being bamboozled by additional information that may percieved as something they want to know but isn't actually useful.
<Q: Do you have any other thoughts or comments you would like to share?>
